Marley Spoon Meals Review
We’ve made and reviewed Martha Stewart and Marley Spoon meal kits several times and really enjoy them. Compared to other meal kits we find Martha Stewart’s recipes to include more globally-inspired dishes with quality ingredients.
We loved the Garlic-Herb Shrimp and Broccoli. This dish was easy to make and came together in around 30 min.
This meal tasted like shrimp scampi but without the pasta, making it perfect for a light, healthy summer meal. Yum!
The Beef Bibimbap with Shiitake Mushrooms & a Fried Egg on top. This recipe was labeled as a 20 min meal kit on the Marley Spoon site and we found it to take around 30 minutes to complete for the 4 serving meal.
We loved this dish as it was topped with a slightly sweet, slightly spicey Gojuchang sauce, sesame seeds for crunch, and a rich fried egg on top. The garlicky spinach and mushrooms had an earthy flavor and paired well with the beef.
The Cottage Pie with Grass-Fed Ground Beef topped with Scalloped Potatoes. This dish, which is similar to a Shephard’s Pie, is filled with peas, carrots, onions, and ground beef in a Worcestershire and thyme sauce. The star of the plate was the cheesy scalloped potatoes!
This meal was perfect on the cold rainy night that we prepared it. It was rich, filling, and comforting.
Marley Spoon Meals Review: High-Level Thoughts
INGREDIENTS: Every time we have ordered Marley Spoon meal kits, our ingredients arrived fresh and lasted until we cooked the last meal around 5 days later. We are a family of 3 and there was plenty of food for us in the 4-serving meal kits. These recipes could easily serve 4 adults.
PACKAGING: The box, liner, and paper meal kit bags are recyclable. The empty ice packs and plastic bags Marley Spoon says can be recycled, but we do not recycle #4 plastics in our area. I would be happy to have all of my ingredients in 1 bag or no bag at all versus all of the individual plastic bags reducing waste and potentially reducing costs.
RECIPES: Instructions were easy to follow and the skill level required, in our opinion, would be mid-level. The recipes do require prepping, chopping, and several pans, but the step-by-step instructions walk you through everything.
PORTIONS: We are a family of 3 and ordered the 4 serving meal kits this week. These offered plenty of food with leftovers for lunch. We have purchased the 2 serving meal kits in the past and add a vegetable side or salad to add a little more to the meal.
I would recommend doing either if you are a family of 3 or a family of 4 with 2 young children but would note that when you purchase the 2 person kit you will have much smaller portions of protein and might be fine on carbs like rice and pasta. Marley Spoon Meals Review: Ready Made Meals
The newest edition to the Marley Spoon menu is Ready Made prepared meals. These meals, labeled as Ready to Heat, offer customers a quick and convenient meal option when they are in a hurry or don’t have time to cook. Currently, there are 2 Ready Made meals on the menu each week.
Ready Made meals heat up in the microwave or oven and can be ready to eat in around 3-5 minutes. Each meal is a single serving, but you do have to buy 2 servings during checkout. These meals are the same price as the Marley Spoon meal kits.
Marley Spoon notes that these meals can be frozen for up to 2 months if needed and recommend adding 1-2 minutes to the microwave time when cooking.
Martha Stewart and Marley Spoon truly bring the joy of cooking into your home with a variety of flavor-packed meal kits with trusted recipes by Martha Stewart and quality seasonal ingredients.
We love the unique and flavorful recipes that are found in Marley Spoon meal kit recipes. In general, these recipes are more complex than other meal kits on the market and offer a wide range of international flavors, pushing you outside of your normal dinner routine.
The recipes from Marley Spoon were easy to follow, provided enough food to feed our family of 3 with leftovers, and tasted great. We also love all of the add-on items like proteins and desserts as well as seasonal/Holiday recipes.
And while Marley Spoon is not the cheapest meal kit option compared to other meal kits, the quality, and variety of the recipes and ingredients, it’s definitely worth a try. They are also not the fastest and easiest meal kit recipes to make, but the flavor of the end product, we’ve found, is well worth it.
Marley Spoon Ready Meals are a convenient option for those who want flavor-packed, high-quality meals from Martha Stewart, but are short on time. These prepared meals are in line with others when it comes to price per serving and has slightly larger portions than most prepared meals that we’ve seen.
