Kitchen table moments matter to the team at Home Chef. When you come home after a busy day, you deserve to spend quality time with yourself and others wherever you eat dinner. We love a couch supper just as much as we love this ingredient prepped meal service. With thirty-eight customizable options at prices starting at $6.99 a serving, the Home Chef menu gives you all the variety and foresight you need in a week full of cooking without a grocery list. Simple and delicious, Home Chef meals come with the exact amount of all the essential ingredients needed to craft amazing dishes in under an hour. No waste. No wait time. What’s not to love?

What We Liked

  • Seasonings are suggestive! Salt and pepper are classic additives to flavor your dishes, but experimenting with other spices will only elevate your dish.
  • Meat separated! Fish, beef, chicken— whatever it is, comes in a separate bag from your vegetables and makes storing between the fridge and freezer easy.
  • Nothing unused! The only leftovers are what you can’t eat, not what didn’t make it in the mix.

What We Didn’t Like

  • Time limit! All the recipes in my box came with the recommendation that they are cooked within three days.
  • Delivery skip weeks! Home Chef will automatically send you each week’s box if you do not skip the delivery yourself. This is great for those looking for weekly deliveries, but if you want to space things out a bit more, pay attention!

Tips for selecting your Home Chef meals:

  • The Home Chef menu is accessible only after you sign up and set up your account. Once those details and delivery preferences (number of meals, dietary preferences, and serving sizes) are worked out, you’ll be introduced to the weekly menus. The options listed initially are just suggestions.
  • Want to know more about what kind of work these recipes require? Click on them! The chefs who designed them provide an overview, customizable alternatives, and the details of the cooking process right there for your convenience.
  • Want to look for new dishes? Increase the serving size? The number of meals delivered for that week? Click edit meals and browse through your options! Once you’re satisfied with your Home Chef menu, logout. Your delivery is set and ready to go.

I filled my Home Chef box with the following meals:

  • Scallop Scampi Campanelle with Creamy Parmesan Sauce
  • Pretzel-Crusted Tilapia with Honey Mustard
  • BBQ-Ranch Steak Flatbread

Scallop Scampi Campanelle with Creamy Parmesan Sauce: There are a lot of moving parts with this dish, but they’re all timed perfectly when getting everything together. I was most nervous about getting the sauce at the right consistency, but the directions were outlined really well and it ended up being my favorite part of the dish! The garlic bread was also fun to make. I sprinkled some of my own cheese over the garlic when I put it in the oven!

Pretzel-Crusted Tilapia with Honey Mustard: I don’t normally cook with fish, so this recipe was the hardest for me. I’m also not a huge fan of squash, BUT this was delicious. The Dijon honey mustard definitely helped balance out some of the stronger flavors.

BBQ-Ranch Steak Flatbread: I made this with a friend and we haven’t stopped talking about it. It was the easiest and the best tasting dish out of the three for me. The steak and barbecue sauce went well on the naan, especially once the caramelized onions were added to the mix. I only wish they had given more cheese in the original package!

A few tips to enjoying your Home Chef meals!

  • Olive oil! All of my recipes called for it. They also generally ask for a few other ingredients, so make sure you have those handy before cooking.
  • Clear Space! The recipes generally only take 30-45 minutes to cook, but you’ll be using a lot of pots and pans. Make sure you have enough room to maneuver through all the moving parts.
  • Save your recipes! They come three-hole punched for a reason.

Home Chef Reviews: Bottom Line

Normally I’m a pretty simple cook, but after trying out the Home Chef menu I feel much more confident in my abilities. The directions contain helpful visuals and are easy to follow. I got to see how all the ingredients should look measured out for future reference. I was even able to cook some of this with a friend! My first Home Chef box was a success. I can’t wait to add more of their recipes to my collection.
