10 Best Meal Kits Delivery Services

After hours of research and time in the kitchen preparing meal kit recipes, we have narrowed down our list of the Best Meal Kits delivery services!  Drumroll, please…

The Best Meal Kits are (in alphabetical order):

In addition to the 10 best meal kits above, there are several “specialty” meal kits that made our list.

Best Meal Kits: By Price

When you compare the 10 Best Meal Kits by price, you will find that Dinnerly has the lowest starting price per serving at $4.69, with EveryPlate close behind at just $4.99 per serving.

Both Dinnerly and EveryPlate meal kits include a limited number of ingredients and very simple, mostly American-style recipes.  With new customer discounts, we’ve seen EveryPlate as low as $1.99 per serving.  You can check out the latest Meal Kit Coupons here.

As you move into the middle of the price range, these meal kit delivery services offer more weekly recipes to choose from both in terms of the actual number of recipes available as well as the number of options for specific diets.

In addition, recipes become a little more complex, with more globally-inspired recipes and flavors, and the quality and quantity of ingredients tend to increase as well.

Best Meal Kits for Families

Meal kits are great for families as they save time in the kitchen, introduce new flavors and foods to help develop a well-round palate in young eaters, and keep dinner interesting for adults.

Best Meal Kits for Families: Seasonal/HolidayMartha Stewart & Marley Spoon and Dinnerly

Traditional Meal Kits

salsa verde salmon - blue apron meal kit reviews - mealfinds

Traditional meal kits for large families, more than 4 people, are hard to come by, though, and often carry a hefty price tag.

Green Chef and Home Chef are the only meal kit companies that have 6 serving meal kits, though with several other meal kit services like Martha Stewart & Marley Spoon, Gobble, and Dinnerly you can add more servings to your order to create a meal for a large family.

Dinnerly and EveryPlate are the least expensive meal kits per serving with simple meals featuring kid-friendly flavors.  The low cost combined with American recipes will please even your picky eaters.

Tip:  To stretch your meal kit, add a salad, extra vegetable, or add more protein to your order.

  • Blue Apron allows you to add additional servings of protein to specific meal kits and offers sides as an addon.  Sides are a great way to stretch a meal for a lower cost per serving.
  • With Gobble, you can add proteins, in 2 serving packs, to your order.  We are a family of 3 and often purchase the 2 serving meal kits and add more protein to stretch them.  This is especially true for recipes with noodles as most meal kit delivery services tend to send more than enough noodles.
  • Dinnerly, Martha Stewart & Marley Spoon, Sunbasket, Hello Fresh, Home Chef, and Every Plate have protein add-ons that can help stretch meals as well.

Specialty Meal Kits for Families

Sushify-4-8-Person-DIY-Sushi-Kit

In addition, specialty meal kits have hit the market and are perfect for feeding a large family, even if it’s just on a special occasion.

Check out Sushify for a monthly sushi-making experience with enough sushi to feed a crowd! (Save 10% now with code MEALFINDS >>)

And Goldbelly offers subscription-free meal kits from Top Chefs and Top US Restaurants as well as baking kits with many serving 4 – 8+.  You can experience a Maine Lobster Roll Kit or a Deep Dish Pizza Kit from Chicago without leaving your house.

goldbelly-live-classes

In addition, Goldbelly has Goldbelly Live! cook-along classes where you receive a meal kit and then cook along with the chef in a live cooking class.  This is one meal kit experience you won’t soon forget!

Holiday and Seasonal Meal Kits for Families

marley-spoon-thanksgiving-meal-kit

Holiday and Seasonal meal kits are designed to feed a crowd.

Dinnerly and Martha Stewart & Marley Spoon have Holiday/Seasonal meal kits, like casseroles and desserts, that can often feed a large family for a very reasonable price.  They both even have dessert kits on their weekly menus that are perfect for families.

Check out the Holiday/Seasonal meal kits around Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Mother’s Day.

You can see our latest Thanksgiving Meal Kit round-up for more details on what to expect.

Best Meal Kits for Singles

Those of you who are single might be wondering if there is a meal kit for you?  Of course, there is!

Best Meal Kits for Singles: Traditional Meal Kits

gobble-lasagna-rolls

We recommend trying a 2-serving meal kit and having half for dinner and the rest for lunch or dinner the next day!  If you purchase 2 – 2 serving meal kits each week you will easily have 4 homemade meals.

Gobble, Sunbasket, Martha Stewart & Marley Spoon, Blue Apron, Green Chef, Hello Fresh, and Home Chef allow you to purchase just 2 recipes per week, though this option is often more expensive per serving than purchasing 3 recipes per week.

Best Meal Kits for Singles: Sunday Meal Prep Meal Kit

Did you know that there is a MEAL PREP Meal Kit?  Blue Apron is the only company to have a Meal Prep option that allows you to make 8 servings in around 2 hours and then simply heat up the meals during the week.

This is a great option for singles who are low on time throughout the week and want homecooked meals.
