Wandering Bear Coffee Reviews

Wandering Bear Coffee sources its coffee from select farms and co-operatives in Colombia, Mexico, Nicaragua, and Peru. They say that the secret to their strong, smooth organic cold brew coffee is that “there is more coffee in our coffee”.

If you are new to cold brew, the first thing you will notice when you try Wandering Bear is the amazing flavor (more on that below!).  Cold brew tends to be less bitter, less acidic, with more of a sweet almost fruity, nutty, chocolatey flavor.  There are a number of factors that go into this flavor, but the most notable is the quality of the beans and the roasting process.

Unlike regular hot coffee, which is made by pouring hot water over coffee grounds with a short brew time, cold brew is made by steeping ground coffee beans in water for hours giving it that deep coffee flavor with a smooth taste.  And because more coffee grounds are needed per ounce of water to make cold brew it typically has a higher caffeine count than hot or iced coffee.

According to Consumer Reports, “the average brewed coffee has about 12 mg of caffeine per fluid ounce” while the average cold brew can have 2X that amount.  Wandering Bear Coffee organic cold brew has between 150mg to 300mg of caffeine per glass depending on the product.

For our Wandering Bear Coffee reviews, we received one 96oz box of Straight Black Organic Cold Brew Coffee and one 96oz box of Vanilla Organic Cold Brew Coffee.  In addition to these two flavors, they also have a Hazelnut flavor cold brew as well as 3 other sizes including the 1-gallon bag-in-box, the 32 oz carton, and the 11oz single-serve.

When your cold brew from Wandering Bear Coffee arrives, you can store it at room temperature until you open it thanks to the flash pasteurization that allows for safe storage without affecting its taste.

Once you’ve opened your box of cold brew, store it in the fridge to keep it fresh.  It will stay fresh for around 30 days if you don’t drink it all first.  To enjoy your cold brew you can drink it as-is from the tap or carton, enjoy over ice, and/or add a splash of your favorite milk or creamer.  There is no need to dilute with water.  Shop Now >>

Wandering Bear Coffee Reviews: Cold Brew

I must say that having cold brew on tap is very convenient.  Even before this review, I drank a cup of cold brew coffee every day after lunch.  I started my cold brew journey by making iced coffee (which I later realized is not the same as cold brew) and then tried several cold brew brands at my local grocery store.

I eventually purchased a cold brew maker as many of the cold brew coffee I tried from the grocery store didn’t seem very strong and tasted watered down.  I love cold brew and was super excited to try Wandering Bear Coffee.  Shop Now >>

Wandering Bear Straight Black Cold Brew
wandering-bear-coffee-reviews-cold-brew-on-tap

We received a 96oz box of Straight Black Cold Brew from Wandering Bear Coffee.  This box contains 16 6oz servings.  Wandering Bear says that each 6oz glass is equal to 2 espresso shots with 150 mg caffeine.  All Wandering Bear Coffee is made with simple, 100% organic ingredients and contains no sugar or dairy.  In addition, the cold brew boxes are recyclable, just separate the bag from the box.

Compared to your normal cup of Jo brewed at home with between 100-120mg of caffeine, Wandering Bear Coffee cold brew will give you an extra kick. If you are looking for a bigger kick of caffeine Wandering Bear 32oz cartons have 180mg of caffeine per glass and their single-serve cartons have 300 mg per 11 oz carton.

The taste of the Straight Black is smooth, not bitter at all, with a sweet almost fruity flavor followed by a rich nuttiness.  I didn’t find it acidic at all and really enjoyed this cold brew with a splash of creamer.

Wandering Bear Vanilla Cold Brew

The Vanilla Cold Brew on tap is also made with 100% organic ingredients and contains no sugar or dairy.  And like the Straight Black, the Vanilla cold brew has a smooth fruit-forward taste with just a touch of vanilla bean flavor.

Unlike other flavored cold brews that I have tasted, this one didn’t have a fake taste or weird aftertaste.  The vanilla flavor was more vanilla bean than vanilla extract.  It was lovely with a slice of cake.

Wandering Bear Coffee Reviews: Bottom Line

wandering-bear-coffee-cold-brew-on-tap

Wandering Bear Coffee brings you smooth, strong organic cold brew, coffee pods, and ground coffee directly to your door.

We love that their cold brew is 100% organic and contains no added sugar or dairy.  We also really enjoyed the smooth, fruit-forward, and nutty flavor of both the Straight Black and the Vanilla cold brew.  The bag-in-box with a tap is very convenient for work, home, or your home office mini-fridge.

And while Wandering Bear Coffee cold brew boxes have more caffeine than your normal home-brewed cup of hot coffee they have less than some other cold brew brands or a cup of Starbucks dark roast.  If you love cold brew and really want a big kick go for their 32 or 11 oz single-serve cartons which have 180mg and 300mg of caffeine.

When comparing the price of Wandering Bear Coffee organic cold brew to other organic cold brew coffee products at the grocery store, they are more expensive ($0.14/oz vs $0.24/oz), but you can buy Wandering Bear in larger quantities and have it on tap.

If you are a cold brew coffee-lover and want a quality organic, cold brew with no added sugar or dairy, and a smooth, strong flavor conveniently on tap in your refrigerator, then Wandering Bear Coffee cold brew is for you!  Wandering Bear Coffee also makes a great gift for that coffee-lover in your life that has it all.  Shop Now >>
