TasteCrate Snack Box Review

TasteCrate knows that there are a lot of snack boxes out there and that’s why they pack each box with hard-to-find snacks that you won’t find in other boxes or your local grocery store.

Every TasteCrate box contains 15-20 premium, healthy-ish, hard-to-find snacks (and beverages).  This may include protein bars, nuts, popcorn, jerky, pretzels, cookies, chips, crackers, drinks, and more.

Like most (all) snack boxes that we’ve seen, TasteCrate does not allow you to customize your box, but we think the surprise is the best part! Get 25% OFF with code MEALFINDS >>

    TasteCrate Review: Snack Box Favorites

think jerky gfb chocolate almond balls spilling out of packaging-tastecrate review-mealfinds

As we tasted the snacks and drink in our TasteCrate snack box there were some clear favorites.  We absolutely LOVED the Think Jerky Beef Jerky in Classic flavor and wished that we had more.  The beef jerky was tender with a wonderful salty, peppery flavor.

The GFB in Dark Chocolate + Almond bites were a tasty protein-packed snack that we all enjoyed.  These little balls had a wonderful almost fudgy inside that was not dry at all with a sweet almond coating. Perfect for an afternoon sweet treat.

We also really enjoyed Blake’s Seed-Based Pineapple Snack Bar for its limited ingredients and bright pineapple taste as well as the warm spices and soft texture of the Empowered Cookie Ginger Molasses CookieGet 25% OFF with code MEALFINDS >>

    TasteCrate Review:  Snack Box Surprises

popcorn snack sticks and volay drink-tastecrate review-mealfinds

We love snack boxes because they are full of surprises and this TasteCrate box had a few.   The Zesty Z Mediterranean Popcorn in Feta Cheese was unique and wonderful and tasted like a greek salad.

The I am(aranth) Amaranth Sticks in Himalayan Sea Salt were crunchy and flavorful and reminded us of corn chips, but better.

The Volay Caffeinated Sparkling Water in Watermelon Mint was another nice surprise as I don’t usually like watermelon flavored drinks, but the mint added a nice balance.

Finally, the Amazi Chili + Lime Jackfruit Chews was the biggest surprise of the box.  I had never had jackfruit in fruit leather form and the combination of spicy chili and tangy lime really made these pop.  They were a little too spicy for me to eat a lot of them, but the flavor was very interesting.  Get 25% OFF with code MEALFINDS >>

    TasteCrate Review: Snack Box Misses

protein bars and potato granola--tastecrate review-mealfinds

As with most (all) snack boxes, you can’t select the items that come in your box, and with that comes the element of surprise along with some snacks that you might not like.

For us, there were several protein bars that just didn’t taste great.  The Skout Organics bar in Chocolate Cherry was dry and had a tart taste from the cherries and a bitter taste from the dark chocolate.

The Unity Protein Bar in Chocolate Coconut was another miss for us as it too was dry and had a weird taste. Get 25% OFF with code MEALFINDS >>

    Is TasteCrate worth it?

You might be wondering if TasteCrate is worth it?  If you love healthy-ish, unique, and hard-to-find snacks delivered to your door, we say YES!

Unlike most other snack boxes that send snacks that you can easily find at one of your local grocery or specialty stores, TasteCrates snacks are hard to find, making them that much more special. Get 25% OFF with code MEALFINDS >>

While researching our TasteCrate snacks, we were able to successfully find pricing for all items online.

After adding up the retail price for our snacks we saved almost $13 with TasteCrate vs finding and buying these snacks across various online outlets!  That’s a 24% savings!*

It’s important to point out that:

    • The best part of TasteCrate is discovering new snacks!
    • We found that most items could not be purchased individually online, meaning you have to order in packs of 12 for example, and therefore pay a lot more money.
    • In addition, most online stores have a minimum purchase amount and/or charge extra for shipping. Again, causing you to pay more. (TasteCrate offers FREE Shipping!)

    TasteCrate Review: Bottom Line

tastecrate box open with snacks-tastecrate review-mealfinds

TasteCrate is a monthly subscription box delivering healthy, unique, and hard-to-find premium snacks and beverages directly to your door.

We love that this snack box lives up to its promise of delivering hard-to-find and unique snacks that are healthy-ish.  We found most snacks had a limited number of premium ingredients, with some using all organic ingredients.  We also love that each box comes with free shipping and that you can receive up to 20 snacks per box.

And while we loved the snack surprises in our back, TasteCrate only offers one box type which for those with allergies or dietary restrictions could be a non-starter.  In addition, we would love to be able to buy the snacks we loved through TasteCrate like other snack box subscriptions, but this is currently not available.

Compared to other snack boxes that we’ve tried the quality of the snacks in TasteCrate can’t be beaten and the $2 average price per snack is in the middle of the price range for snack boxes.  Though, keep in mind that these snacks are premium and hard to find.

Plus, when we compared the TasteCrate price to the actual retail price we saved almost 25%!

We would recommend TasteCrate to any snack-lover, those who are looking for more unique snacks to jazz up their snack game, and those looking for healthy-ish premium snacks and love to be surprised.  TasteCrate also makes a great gift! Get 25% OFF with code MEALFINDS >>

    Enjoy!
