I was super excited to try tea from Simple Loose Leaf as I drink a lot of tea, but don’t really know much about it and haven’t tried a lot of tea outside of my favorite grocery store brand.
My daily tea consumption consists of 1 to 2 cups of hot black tea, specifically English Breakfast, and a cup of fruity herbal tea at night. In the summer I love to add iced tea into the mix with fresh mint from our garden. I feel like with tea, like most things, you don’t know what you don’t know. In other words, I don’t know what I’m missing because I haven’t really explored tea.

I love black tea and have always gravitated toward English Breakfast over Earl Grey because Earl Grey has always tasted too floral for me. Also, most Earl Grey goes too heavy on the bergamot (citrus) flavor for me and comes across as almost bitter. With all of that said, I put the kettle on the stove and tried to have an open mind for this cup of Blue Lady Grey by Simple Loose Leaf.
As I opened up the package I was hit with a lovely smell – the black tea, lavender flowers, and vanilla filled the air and delighted my senses. You can see, and smell, all of the wonderful ingredients as you scoop them into your loose leaf tea container. I poured my hot water into the cup, added my loose leaf tea infuser, and let sit for the recommended time.
This tea tasted wonderful! It was not too floral, nor did it have a strong bergamot taste. It was smooth and black with hints of vanilla and lavender. I can not believe the difference a quality tea makes as well as using loose leaf vs a premade tea bag. The taste is so much more complex with loose leaf tea and is really a delight to drink.
This tea is listed as “high-caffeine” and perfect to jump-start your morning (or afternoon!). Black teas, overall, have the highest amount of caffeine naturally and this tea has about 47 mg of caffeine per 8 oz cup of tea (about half the caffeine of coffee). Though that can be higher or lower depending on the amount of dry leaf used when brewing.
This tea is also listed as “Keto Friendly” because there aren’t any added sugars. Therefore, it will not move your body out of a state of ketosis and doesn’t have other artificial sweeteners that can do some other odd things with blood sugar levels.
Recently, I’ve started enjoying a cup of fruity herbal tea at night to help close out the day and as part of my nightly wind-down ritual before bed. Again, using a grocery store brand herbal tea in a bag, not knowing what else is out there.

This Blood Orange herbal tea is right up my alley with its fruit-forward taste and I was really looking forward to curling up on the couch with a cup before bed.
When I opened the Blood Orange package I was hit with amazing citrus scents with some floral hints and couldn’t wait to give it a try! I heated up the kettle, scooped my loose leaf tea into my infuser, and waited for the water to boil. I poured the water into my cup, added the tea, and took in the wonderful smells of orange and rose.
I curled up on the couch with my cup of Blood Orange tea and took a sip. The orange flavor shines through with the slightest hint of vanilla and rose. It’s the perfect herbal tea before bed. I am a huge iced tea drink in the summer. It seems like the hotter it gets here on the East Coast the more iced tea I drink. I especially love it while we are out by the pool, entertaining guests, or after several hours of yard work.
