Shaker & Spoon Cocktail Kit Review
Each Shaker & Spoon cocktail club box includes three one-of-a-kind recipes built around one spirit, unique and hard-to-find ingredients, a glossary of terms, and access to online video tutorials.
Recipes are created by world-renowned bartenders specifically for Shaker & Spoon cocktail club members and you won’t find them anywhere else.
The recipe cards and how-to videos (accessed online) guide you through mixing and garnishing cocktails, helping you hone your bartending skills and master the art of the perfect cocktail.
Each box has almost everything you will need to create three amazing cocktails. The cocktail kit includes all of the ingredients you need, minus the alcohol, to create 12 cocktails, 4 from each recipe.
This includes syrups, bitters, garnishes, mixes, and citrus. Bartenders even recommend specific bottles of alcohol for each recipe, though the same bottle will work for all three recipes in your cocktail kit.
Why isn’t alcohol included?
Great question! Two reasons, the first is because there are a lot of restrictions, and costs, when it comes to shipping alcohol with each state having its own guidelines. By not including alcohol Shaker & Spoon can ship to all 50 states and keep the cost of the box down. In addition, by not including alcohol recipients don’t have to be home for delivery to sign for the package, and adults under 21 can order a cocktail kit for friends and family 21+.
For our Shaker & Spoon cocktail kit review, we received the Fall for Mezcal box which features the spirit Mezcal in three different recipes.
Mezcal is a roasted agave spirit and the national spirit of Mexico, is featured in the Fall for Mezcal box by Shaker & Spoon. With its smooth, smokey flavors, notes of citrus, and a touch of sweetness, Mezcal has been loved in Mexico and around the world for hundreds of years.
The ingredients in our box were
Rose Lemonade
Wild Rose-Infused Strawberry Jam
Lemon Bitters
Rosebuds
Sage-Agave Syrup
Cherry Vanilla BItters
Sage Hydrosol
Pineapple Shrub
Demerara Syrup
Lemon Lime Ginger Beer
Crispy Pineapple Slices
The three cocktail recipes included in the Fall for Mezcal box are Abstract Distraction, El Palenque, and Brush of the Bush.
A bright and fruity cocktail featuring the flavorful and fragrant rose created by bartender Nova Clark highlights the smoke and vanilla from the mezcal.
This cocktail features floral notes from the rose-infused strawberry jam and rose lemonade, which also added a sweetness to the drink that I really liked. And it looks so pretty!
Bartender Sam Jimenez puts a twist on a traditional Mexican street drink with pineapple shrub, lemon-lime flavored ginger beer, smokey mezcal, and sweet demerara syrup.
Our favorite cocktail in the box! We loved the kick of ginger from the ginger beer and the sweetness from the pineapple shrub.
A take on an old-fashioned from bartender Marshall Altier that marries mezcal and the warm flavor of sage-infused agave syrup and cherry vanilla bitters.
My husband’s favorite drink as the cherry vanilla bitters and sage from the syrup and hydrosol added a unique twist to an old favorite.
There are 2 ways to gift Shaker & Spoon: give a Cocktail Club Subscription or an individual Cocktail Kit.
Cocktail Club Subscription
$40 – $50 per box
A cocktail club subscription is a great (and easy) gift to give! All you need to know is the giftee’s name and email address.
Choose between 1-, 3-, 6-, and 12-month subscriptions for anyone in the US.
The lucky gift recipient receives an email about their gift and they can redeem it whenever they want. (Like when they really like a box or the spirit of the month.)
Gifts do not auto-renew.
The gift includes the full Cocktail Club experience with 3 recipes and ingredients (minus the alcohol).
If you would rather send an individual cocktail kit or wrap one up for under the Christmas Tree, Shaker & Spoon has over 45 individual cocktail kits to choose from!
The individual cocktail kits start at just $10 and go up to $43 for the boxes that support a charity, with most around $15.
I’m hoping to receive the Verdito Kit or the Red Devil 2.0 Kit (hint, hint).
Shaker & Spoon is a cocktail club delivering unique cocktail recipes created by world-renowned bartenders along with unique and hard-to-find ingredients allowing you to become the mixologist of your dreams and create drool-worthy cocktails sure to impress.
We love that the cocktail recipes are one-of-a-kind and created by top bartenders using unique ingredients. We also love that you are learning from the recipes and the online tutorials, leveling up your bartending skills while making tasty cocktails.
And while our cocktails were fun to make and tasted wonderful, you will have to buy the alcohol and pay an additional fee for shipping which adds to the total cost of the box.
With that said, we think that this box is a great gift for anyone who likes cocktails, likes to try new things, and/or likes to entertain. Or buy for yourself and your partner as something to do together.
Each box is filled with not only recipes and ingredients, but an experience that you can enjoy with friends and family.
