How do I make a SmoothieBox Smoothie?

smoothiebox with orange smoothies-smoothiebox smoothie review-mealfinds

To make a SmoothieBox smoothie, simply add the smoothie pouch contents to your blender, add in your desired liquid (we used water, but almond milk, coconut water, or juice will work), optional add-in, and then blend for about 30 seconds.

In less than a minute your healthy breakfast, lunch, or snack, is served.

I found these smoothies are easily made in around 1 minute, even in a morning haze.

How many smoothies does a SmoothieBox smoothie packet make?

Like most smoothies, you can make 1 or 2 servings depending on how much liquid you use to blend.

Each SmoothieBox smoothie pouch can make one large 16 oz smoothie or two smaller 8 oz smoothies.

I prefer the large smoothie as a breakfast meal replacement and then divide one into 2 smaller smoothies for afternoon snacks.  But the larger smoothie does tend to taste more watered down with less flavor.  SHOP NOW >>

For our SmoothieBox reviews, we tried all six smoothie flavors as well as the collagen peptide protein add-in.

SmoothieBox smoothie flavors include Strawberry Banana, Berry, Green, Chocolate, Mango, and Orange. SHOP NOW >>

After trying all six flavors, I found that SmoothieBox smoothies defer from other smoothie companies in 4 ways:

  • Collagen, Protein, and Super Greens add-ins are available,
  • Pre-blended “Smoothie Chips” add nutrients and flavor to smoothies,
  • Smoothies aren’t too sweet, and
  • They all have a creamy taste/texture.

The first thing we noticed when opening our SmoothieBox smoothie bag is the “Smoothie Chips”.  They use these as a way of “fine-tuning the flavor and nutrient profile of our smoothies”.

The Smoothie Chips in the Berry smoothie, for example, consist of Sweet Potato Puree, Banana Puree, Raw Hemp Seeds, and Lemon Juice.  These chips also add to that creamy texture that I mentioned earlier.

And after looking at the ingredients for all of the smoothies, I found that they each have one or more naturally creamy ingredients: Green With Apple includes avocado, Orange contains sweet potato and coconut cream, and Chocolate includes banana and coconut cream.  This isn’t good or bad, just something that was unique 🙂

In addition, none of the smoothies are overly sweet which I personally enjoy.  If you prefer a sweeter smoothie, try adding a sweet fresh fruit like bananas, pineapple, or strawberries, or use less water or a lightly sweetened fruit juice as your liquid.  SHOP NOW >>

What are the Best SmoothieBox Smoothie Flavors?

My favorite SmoothieBox smoothies flavors are Strawberry Banana and Berry as I really love any and all berry smoothies.  Both of the smoothies had a similar berry taste as most of the ingredients are the same.  The Berry smoothie, though, tasted like creamy strawberry and blueberry while the Strawberry Banana smoothie had less of a berry flavor with a hint of banana.  And neither was very sweet.

My next favorite was the Green smoothie as it tasted like a slightly sweet green salad.  Green smoothies are hit or miss for me, but I liked the balance of apple and pineapple with the spinach as well as the creamy texture of the avocado in these smoothies.

The Orange smoothie has a strong ginger carrot flavor that was a nice surprise, but I was hoping for the “orange creamsicle” taste that SmoothieBox promised. SHOP NOW >>

The Mango smoothie, which has similar ingredients as the Orange, has a nice mango flavor with only a hint of ginger.  I liked this one more than the Orange for this reason and found it very refreshing.

Last, the Chocolate smoothie tasted like a watered-down dark chocolate and banana milkshake and was more of a dessert for me than breakfast as I’m not a fan of chocolate for breakfast (I know, I know, I’m the only one!).  But I know many people, like my sister, who would drink one of these every morning!  SHOP NOW >>

What is collagen and why add it to your SmoothieBox order?

As I mentioned, SmoothieBox has several optional add-ons including Protein Powder, Collagen, and SuperGreens.  We decided to try the collagen addon.

Collagen is a protein found in our connective tissue that basically holds our bodies together.   According to WebMD, collagen makes up about 75% of the dry weight of our skin and keeps it plump and line-free.

As we age, we lose collagen faster than our bodies can replace it.  We can get some back by using cosmetic injectables like fillers or we can try a more proactive approach by consuming collagen in our daily diets to slow the loss. SHOP NOW >>

Ingestible collagen peptide supplements have been linked to strengthening hair and nails as well as supporting a healthy gut and bone/joint health and are usually made with ground-up fish or animal parts (don’t worry, you can’t taste them in your smoothies!).

But, as you can imagine, not all supplements are created equal so you need to seek out collagen peptides that are made from high-quality ingredients to ensure that you aren’t being exposed to potentially harmful things like heavy metals from ground-up fish or bacteria from ground-up animal parts.

Lucky for you, SmoothieBox understands the benefits of high-quality collagen peptides, using only grass-fed pasture-raised cows to create their quality collagen peptide add-in, and includes the option to add this supplement to every order.

The collagen addon starts at $0.93 per serving.

The collagen doesn’t change the taste or texture of your SmoothieBox smoothie and blends in perfectly with your choice of liquid and smoothie.

TIP:  Research varies on the amount of collagen to consume daily from 5g to 20g.  We suggest doing your own research to see what is best for you.  You may want to use half a packet in your smoothie vs the whole packet so that they last longer!  SHOP NOW >>

SmoothieBox Smoothie Review:  Bottom Line

strawberry banana smoothie top-smoothiebox smoothie review-mealfinds

SmoothieBox brings you a healthy daily smoothie option free from additives and artificial sweeteners made from organic fruits and vegetables.  The vitamins and minerals within these smoothies can help boost your energy, fight acne, and improve digestion, among other things.

The optional collagen peptide protein add-in can help you build and maintain muscle, prevent bone and joint pain, and promotes skin health.

SmoothieBox brings you four healthy smoothies that are not too sweet with a creamy taste and optional collagen peptide protein add-in.  As someone in my 40s, I wish that I had known about collagen peptides 10 years ago so that I could’ve better supported my skin health from the inside out (as well as my gut).  But better now than never!

We love that you can make a one-time purchase or subscribe and save on regular deliveries.

We loved the Berry, Strawberry Banana, and Green smoothie flavors for breakfast and enjoyed the Cacao as an afternoon snack.  The one drawback is the limited number of flavors.  If you like to try new things or mix up your meals, you may get bored with only 6 flavors.

Compared to other smoothies that we have tried SmoothieBox is in the middle to the low end of the price range starting at $5.20 for a 16oz smoothie.

If you are looking for a healthy protein-packed meal replacement or snack alternative with the added benefits of supporting your skin, hair, nails, gut health, and joints I recommend trying out SmoothieBox with the collagen peptide protein add-in.

We recommend SmoothieBox smoothies to anyone looking for an easy way to add fruit, veggies and seeds to their diet, to those looking for a healthy smoothie option with the option to add collagen or protein, and to those with kids who would like a milder tasting smoothie packed with healthy ingredients.  SHOP NOW >>

Enjoy!
